Programme Management Office Review

Issue

This Service is intended for organisations who are concerned that they do not have an effective Programme Management Office (PMO).

Audience
The service is targeted at organisations who either are setting up a Programme Management Office (PMO) for the first time or those who already have a PMO but do not believe that they are getting out of it what they need.

Approach
ERGO will provide assistance to organisations that need to either set up a PMO for the first time or who wish to have an independent review of their current PMO operation. The set-up recommendations or the audit will be performed against the best practice guidance given by the Office for Government Commerce’s (OGC) in their Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) document. The service will be delivered by a qualified MSP practitioner.

The service will consist of three main stages information gathering, application of MSP principles with interim report, and final report and recommendations.

Information Gathering The scope of the engagement will be agreed as the first activity and this will quickly be followed by a number of interviews and observations to collect information about what is currently in place. Information will be gathered about the process for defining and setting up a programme or project, the governance processes in place while the programme or project is running, any financial and other reporting requirements and the processes for measuring, monitoring and closing initiatives.

Application of MSP Principles Once the current structures and procedures are understood the Consultant will apply guidelines as laid out in MSP to the Client’s PMO and will identify areas for implementation or improvement.

The Consultant will prepare an interim report during this phase in order to confirm the data gathered and any assumptions made. Further information gathering will take place at this stage if needed.

Final Report and Recommendations A recommendations document will be produced and will be presented to the Client.
